Ayad Fatafta and Kifah Ghanimat murdered Kristen Luken, an American citizen, while she was visiting Israel. Luken and another woman were hiking near Jerusalem when Fatafta and Ghanimat attacked them. Luken and her companion were stabbed multiple times, and Luken died of her injuries. An Israeli court convicted the two men of murder and other offenses in 2012 and sentenced them to lifetime terms in prison. U.S. prosecutors indicted the pair on terrorism-related charges five years later.
