Samantha Elhassani and her four children traveled with her husband Moussa, a Moroccan national, to Syria. Elhassani and her children are U.S. citizens. Elhassani and her children lived in Raqqa, the self-declared capital of ISIS, while Moussa fought for ISIS. After Moussa was killed, Elhassani and her children fled Raqqa and were detained by Kurdish authorities. She and her children were transferred to the United States, where Elhassani has been charged with making false statements to the FBI. The Indiana Department of Child Services has taken custody of her children.
